I'm a semiretired devops / production support engineer who found Itch.io in 2020. I'm enjoying seeing all the new dev tools and may try to submit some more game jams myself.
In 2021 I've been messing around with Godot and Mono a lot, but I also enjoy the jams involving small, short, quick projects in various game engines and libraries.
In early 2022 I'm settling on Godot, MonoGame, and Love2d as engines/frameworks I'm favoring. Love2d allows for quick and easy prototyping and an easy small export to web. The other two give me C# experience and offer a lot more power. Godot has more game structure provided, and MonoGame initially seems like I could use it as a less-opinionated graphics framework than Godot.
I'm also dabbling with Ink, the narration script language. It's fun for me to try to integrate it with the other frameworks, and I'm also trying to figure out "why are visual novels?"
